Halloween Hodgpodge
Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at 5:00AM I got notice from my web host - Squarespace - that their building headquarters in Manhattan are out of power and they have limited generator fuel so I don’t know if this post will go up, or how long it will be there but let’s give it a go and join Joyce for this week’s Hodgepodge. Although, I’m not even sure Joyce, who lives in NJ is online. This storm was awful!

1. What creeps you out?
Well, clearly, mice do. Also spider webs, leering men, door to door proselytizers, pork rinds and some of the dreams I’ve been having lately.
2. What’s your least favorite candy?
Laffy Taffy. Especially banana Laffy Taffy. It makes me gag to think about eating it. Yuck.
3. Are you a fan of scary movies? What’s the scariest movie you’ve ever seen?
No. I am most definitely not a fan of scary movies. I avoid them at all costs actually. The scariest movie I’ve seen that I actually likes was Signs with Mel Gibson. Of course now Mel Gibson counts as a creepy man, but at the time I liked him and the movie.
4. What part of life confuses you the most?
Ummmmmm, that’s a pretty loaded question for me right now. I’ll pass.
5. Pumpkin, sunflower, sesame, poppy … what’s your favorite kind of seed?
Plain? Pumpkin, hands down. I roasted some on Sunday after the kids did their jack-o-lanterns and I’ve been happily munching on them for days. But I love Sesame Chicken and Lemon Poppy Seed muffins too.
6. Imagine your life 10 years from today… what’s changed?
Wow. As much change as I’ve had this year, I think a view of my life in 10 years would blow my mind. I used to think I was on a predictable track but not anymore. I’m learning to cope with change though so I hope that whatever the next 10 years bring that I am able to find the joy in all circumstances. (I’m studying the book of James right now, can you tell?)
8. What do you a) love the most and b) like the least about the Hodgepodge?
I love having a blog post that I don’t have to think about and Joyce comes up with such fun themes. Sometimes though I feel like the questions don’t really apply to my life.
9. Insert your own random thought here:
My In The Fridge section has been woefully lacking in new content for months now. Honestly, I don’t think I’ve tried a new recipe since that Pinterest fiasco in May. Actually, with everything that’s going on, my kids’ crazy schedules and a full time job just cooking the basics has been a challenge. I think I’m getting back on my feet in the kitchen though. I made a big batch of soup over the weekend along with a double batch of cookies and roasted pumpkin seeds.
Today the office staff is bringing treats for the teachers and paras and I made two pans of Apple Butterscotch Squares. I haven’t had these in over a year and BOY have I missed them. Absolutely scrumptious. Try some this week!

Funny - I love Laffy Taffy. Hugs!
I forgot about Laffy Taffy when I answered that question. I don't like banana anything.
I don't like bananas in anything! Those apple butterscotch bars look good.
What about all those weird flavored Tootsie Rolls? I have never understood those.
Yum- that looks SO delicious. And I need to start making more soup, it's such a perfect fall food. And it makes me so sad to see old Mel Gibson movies I used to like and be like, oh, that was before I knew you were a terrible person!
I can't stand Laffy Taffy, either...never have! Wow...that dessert looks DE-LISH!
Laffy Taffy, haven't had that stuff in years. And, you are correct, the banana is disgusting. Give me Pixie Sticks and Sweet Tarts instead.
I could never stay out of the kitchen for very long. I enjoy cooking and trying new recipes. Granted they don't all work out the way I hope they will, but I keep trying. Sometimes I have to adjust them to suit me and my family,
I still do not know how we are best friends. I LOVE banana laffy taffy and ANY banana candy, especially banana KITS which I used to buy at the penny candy store (that dates me). Also, those bars are evil, so perfect for halloween post. They entice you and next thing you know, you have eaten the whole panful ALL BY YOURSELF (or maybe that is just a personal issue I need to deal with).
Well look who turned up in the Hodgepodge this week : ) I'm slowly but surely catching up on the posts there. I think I liked the banana laffy taffy but not sure I could stomach it anymore. The apple bars look delish...now I need to think of an excuse to bake them because I surely don't need to eat the whole pan myself. Hope you have a happy weekend!
