May Day
Monday, May 7, 2012 at 6:11AM If you love basketball, you think March is Madness. If you have kids and/or work in education you know that March Madness has nothing on May Madness.
If you have kids in spring sports, all the important games or meets are in May. If your kids are musical, concerts in May are a given. Reports and papers are due, presentations must be given and finals are looming. All of this at a time when kids and adults alike are squirrelly from the spring weather and anticipation of freedom.
In the meantime, the house needs spring cleaning and the yard needs mowing and trimming and there are flowers to be pruned and planted. Graduation party invitations are rolling in, deadlines and fees for summer activities are due, oh and the kids have outgrown their summer clothes and are belligerent about wearing jeans and sweat shirts when it’s 85 degrees out.
Also?
If you’re lucky, you’re working up to dance recital weekend (AKA the best weekend of the year). Except it’s dance recital two weekends because this Saturday is dress rehearsal and then next weekend you have three performances. And, possibly, your child who is in NINE DANCES this year decides to go for the win in a P.E. class game of Capture The Flag and gets tackled by five boys and you end up getting X-rays and she hobbles around for a week.
All the while you hyperventilate and add up the potentially wasted costumes in your head. Finally after a second trip to the doctor, she is cleared to dance again. Then you utter a prayer, cross your fingers and knock on wood that she can remain injury and illness free through the end of the month.
But for the record? Her team won the game.
In the meantime, her sister comes down with strep throat and misses two days of school that she can’t afford and you make a third trip to the doctor in a week.
All of this is to say that if I’m a bit absent this month, it’s not you - it’s me. I came up with the Pinterest Post Party specifically so that I could plan and write posts ahead of time during the madness that is May.
But you and I both know that, if nothing else, there are plenty of photos coming up of Faith in various costumes and poses. And this year’s recital has an extra special surprise in it that may just require video.
Y’know - if I can figure out how to do that.
How is your May shaping up?

I miss May madness. Everything in Canada happens in June. It's very weird.
Gah!
I am sooooo excited for that surprise that I could burst! What a shame that Rich told me it is on SUNDAY and Alaina is in the Saturday show.
And are they watching a waiting room TV in the picture above or just striking an artsy pose for you?
I hear ya! I have so much to do and I am so tempted to flake off on homeschool! (Don't worry, I won't!) It is hard to stay motivated. :) Faith is super cute!
Ah, May Madness. Sort of like December Madness in that it is a busy but happy time of
anticipation but with much better weather! This Grandma is so excited to
be coming to participate in the Big Dance Recital - and so relieved that
Faith is okay. Counting the days..........
mj- they probably think we're the weird ones, eh?
KB - it was a tv and how bummed are YOU to miss this event? ;)
LJW - One of the many hundreds of reasons I don't homeschool is that I would totally flake off in May.
Gma - yes, eerily like December. Thank heavens for the sun though.
with 39 days left until the wedding, Allie's prom and end of year school activities, her weekend of dance recitals, AND all the issues with our ministry... My may is shaping up to be WAY TOO BUSY!
Argh, your May sounds similar to our April! haha It all looks like a lot of fun coming up though! I hope there are no more visits to any doctors!
